A set of animated bumpers developed for the ADC Festival 2015 workshops. Each piece combined a distinct 3D object, color palette, and pattern system to introduce every speaker with a clear, memorable visual identity.

Day 3

The festival needed short idents that could differentiate each workshop while still feeling part of a single design system. The visual language relied on geometric 3D objects wrapped in shifting patterns. As each object rotated, the pattern movement created a reveal effect that helped the bumper stand out while staying consistent with the overall ADC aesthetic.

My role

I handled all the motion graphics and 3D work. This included modeling, texturing, lighting, animation, render setup, and compositing. I also defined the logic that linked object type, pattern, and color to each workshop so the entire set worked as a coherent system.

Creative Approach

The idea was to avoid flat 2D intros and instead build a series of 3D forms that emerged from their own pattern environment. The shifting textures created a subtle optical-illusion feel. The rotation of the objects made the patterns break, align, and reveal the form, giving each bumper a moment of discovery. Color was assigned per day and pattern per instructor, keeping every piece recognisable without losing the unified style.

Outcome

The bumpers were used across the festival’s screens and workshop communication. The system proved flexible, visually strong, and immediately legible, helping the event maintain a cohesive identity across multiple instructors and days.
